What this means in practice
Getting started is straightforward. Head to More > Settings > Learning > Curriculums and toggle on whichever frameworks your setting uses. From there, you can add a child’s starting point under Children > Child > Learning Journey > Framework, selecting either Curriculum for Excellence or Realising the Ambition: Being Me. Statements relevant to the chosen area of learning appear automatically, ready for you to record progress against.
Progress is recorded using two clear stages: Starting Point, where a practitioner is confident a child has secured a statement, and Emerging, where a child has shown the behaviour but isn’t yet secure – for example, during a first settling-in session. It’s worth agreeing as a team how these stages are interpreted, so recording stays consistent across your setting.
Once your settling-in period is complete, you can generate a Starting Point formative report directly from Cohort Tracking. If you’re working within Curriculum for Excellence, completed and in-progress statements flow through automatically.
In line with its own framework guidance, Realising the Ambition: Being Me statements don’t pull through into formative reports in the same way – a small but important distinction to keep in mind when planning your reporting.
